Requirements for Licensing:An Applicant for a real estate salesperson's license must be at least 21 years old, be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED), successfully complete a 45-hour real estate transactions course, pass the state licensing examination, and be sponsored by a licensed real estate broker. The Course: The 45-hour Real Estate Transactions Course, or pre-license course, is the mandatory basic course for all salespersons. Successful completion fulfills the Illinois salesperson's pre-licensing education requirement. This course covers all factors involved in real estate transactions: finance, real property law, property, listing agreements, taxes, legal descriptions, Illinois License Law and ethics.
The Illinois Association of Realtors® Licensing & Training Center offers a 45-hour self-study salesperson's pre-license course. Self-study offers flexibility on your own time in your home or office. Student self-study book, cassette tape and course outline are designed to guide you through the complete program. For your convenience, a state-approved instructor is available by phone or e-mail to answer any questions that may arise on course materials.
Final Exam: The State of Illinois requires a proctored exam for each course. A students may take the proctored exam at the local Realtor® association of their choice. After completing the course, the student should contact IAR at 217-529-2600 to have the exam sent to the preferred location.
